What Should I Do Next After Having Blown the Whistle?

Jan. 9, 2015
Dear Cathy:
I blew the whistle on my job and now I am experiencing anxiety so what do I do now after having blown the whistle?  Anxiety in the Northeast
Dear Anxiety:
It is normal to feel anxiety after engaging in such a gallant act so thank you for your bravery.  Since you are not willing to share with me who you are and what you blew the whistle on -- I can only comment on what all Whistleblowers need to do once they come forward.
After blowing the whistle, you will need to stay vigilant because chances are the people you blew the whistle on will forever have you under their microscopes.  However, I wouldn't let that bother you because everyone is under a microscope especially today by the government.
You will really need to watch yourself in terms of engaging in anything illegal or being around others involved in anything illegal because many Whistleblowers have ended up in jail.  Never forget that “the best outlet for a Whistleblower is the media” -- so continue to surround yourself with media entities.  These could be family members, friends, neighbors and colleagues – anyone who can write or help you tell your story including freelancers, bloggers, internet radio hosts, and other TV and radio hosts.
There is life after whistleblowing despite what it might look like now.  Many Whistleblowers will need to start businesses because they will be blackballed in their cities from ever getting any type of employment again.

Your story is now a part of you and it will forever be etched in the minds of others who heard it so use what you blew the whistle on to create a new life for you and your family.  You can learn more about whistleblowing by reading my story  “The Cathy Harris Story: A Whistleblower’s Victorious Journey to Justice.”
